On the basketball court, she cut her teeth playing for several area youth and AAU teams including one directed by the late DHS coach Will Robinson .

Iyana then followed Will to DHS, where she is a three-year starter for the Lady Lion varsity basketball team. The diminutive 5’2″ play-making guard is on the court constantly and her ball handling and direction of the Durant offense has been a key for the programs’ upsurge. She is also a lockdown defender and a reliable scorer averaging 13.0 points a game the past two seasons.

Iyana has shown up when the lights are brightest. As a ninth grader, Iyana poured in 24 points versus Booker T. Washington in the area tournament and averaged 14.0 points a game during last year’s playoff run to the Class 5A state tournament.

In addition, this season, Wilson has been selected to the all-tournament teams at the Madill Winter Classic and the East Central Oklahoma Classic.

When the hoops season ends, Iyana concentrates on track where she continues to make her mark. Wilson won a Class 5A state medal in the 300-meters hurdle and medaled in the 4 x 2 relays.

After high school, Iyana would like to continue her education and play basketball at South Carolina with an eye on a career as an athletic trainer or a coach.

Iyana’s mother is Chanteleese. She has one brother, JK.

Christopher Becerra is the choice for “Performing Arts Student of the Month” for his excellence in band.

As a member of the “Pride of Durant “, Christopher has earned six district medals and medaled at state competitions all four high school years. In addition, Becerra has performed solos in several concerts while at DHS and has also resumed his participation in Choir this year earning district honors.

Christopher doesn’t limit his high school involvement to just band and choir. He also plays soccer, runs cross county and track and is a member of the Lions powerlifting squad where he won a state championship ring his junior year

The dual enrollment senior is a stellar student recording a 4.0 unweighted grade point average (4.4 weighted). During his freshman and junior years, Christopher received an Academic Medal in Core Classes during competitions at Durant and Tishomingo and in track. He is also a member of the Oklahoma and National Honor Society.

Becerra is also active at the St. Williams Catholic Church in Durant where he serves as an Alter Server.

His future plans including attending Oklahoma State University where he plans to pursue a degree in Real Estate Property and Management.
