Durant ISD and Mid-Continental Broadcasting Enter Into New Era

Durant public schools has selected Mid-Continental Broadcasting, parent company to KLBC-FM, KBBC-FM, and KSEO-AM/FM, to serve as the district’s exclusive media representative to provide radio and internet coverage of athletics and other school related activities.

The agreement includes radio broadcasting and selected internet streaming of live baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball and wrestling competitions along with special activities such as band and other fine arts.

In addition, Mid-Continental Broadcasting is establishing a scholarship in the name of long time KLBC announcer Bob McKinzie who passed away in May.  The minimum $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving graduating student.

“I think a big part of our decision was not only the monetary side.  But, the listening audience that KLBC and KSEO has in Durant,” said Duane Meredith, Superintendent of Durant Public Schools.

“It is real important to us as we put things out on the radio or in video web casting, whether it be athletics or fine arts programs, that we reach as many people as we can, ” he said. ” I think it is going to be a bright future for both entities and I think it can be a win-win on both sides.”

Kinion Whittington, CEO of Mid-Continental Broadcasting is excited about the partnership and sees it as a way for his media company to promote the district’s excellence in education. “We look forward to our role aimed at highlighting the community and the students, staff, and teachers that make the Durant school system so special.”

Mid-Continental Broadcasting General Manager Jason Taylor echoed Whittington’s comments. “We are truly excited to be entering into this new level of partnership with the Durant Independent School District. This is an agreement that will benefit our schools, these radio stations, and most importantly, the students of Durant.”

Mid-Continental Broadcasting Sports Director Jim Reagan, a 37 year veteran of Oklahoma sports broadcasting, will return for his eighth year as the voice of Durant high school athletics. Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of  Fame coach and current Durant high school administrator David Brese will also continue to do color commentary on many broadcasts and web casts.
